The Benefits of Pilates for Strength, Posture and Wellbeing

Pilates is often misunderstood. Many people assume it is too gentle to be effective, or simply not suited to them. In reality, Pilates is one of the most valuable forms of movement for building strength, improving posture, and supporting long-term health.

At its core, Pilates focuses on the body’s structure – particularly the spine – and the way joints move in alignment. When the skeleton is properly aligned, the muscles that attach to it can work more efficiently and effectively. This makes Pilates not just a form of exercise, but a foundation for healthier movement in everyday life, as well as in sport and more demanding activities.

Unlike high-intensity workouts, Pilates is about controlled, precise movements performed with focus and awareness. Each exercise is carried out with attention to detail rather than repetition or speed. The result is a practice that is absorbing, mindful and restorative. After a session, many people notice improved posture, a sense of calm, and greater mobility – along with the satisfying feeling of having worked their muscles in a balanced way.

With over 25 years’ experience in the fitness industry, Caroline brings a wealth of knowledge to her Pilates teaching. Beginning her career as a Personal Trainer, she went on to specialise in Exercise Referral and became a BACPR (British Association of Cardiac Prevention and Rehabilitation) Instructor. She continues to work in cardiac rehabilitation at Nuffield Hospital Bournemouth and with Poole Heart Support Group, and is also a qualified Postural Stability Instructor, helping older adults reduce their risk of falls.

A keen jogger, Caroline likes to run several times a week, and definitely feels that Pilates enhances both performance and recovery.

Caroline is the owner of Kaiako Studio, Ashley Road, where she teaches Pilates for all abilities, supporting clients in achieving strength, balance and confidence in their movement.
