Gait analysis at Running Free
Choosing the right shoe is one of the most important decisions you can make as a runner. Spending the time and money to get the best shoes for you will help keep you running comfortably and injury-free. When you come for your analysis, plan on spending some time here because we'll ask you lots of questions and we could have several options of shoes for you to try out.
1 We will look at the shape and arch of your feet to figure out what type of foot (high arches or flat feet, for example) you have. Determining your foot type is key to making sure you get the right running shoes.
2 We don’t measure your feet as the variation in sizes between brands can be misleading so we recommend that you try a range of trainers from a few brands to find the one that suits you best. Even if you've been the same size for years, your foot size can change due to things like pregnancy or falling arches.
3 Your running shoes should be half to a full size bigger than your regular shoe size because your feet will swell when you run and you need plenty of room in the toebox. If your toes are crammed in the front of the running shoe, you could develop blisters or black toenails.
4 We will run a gait analysis for you to determine your running style. We’ll observe whether you're overpronating (your foot rolls inward) or supinating (your foot rolls outward) when your foot strikes the ground.
5 We will ask questions that will help us with your running shoe recommendations. We will ask you questions about what type of running you do, how often you run, where you typically run, if you're training for a race, and what type of surfaces you run on.
6 We will encourage you to have a good walk and run in the shoes to test for fit, function, and comfort before helping you make your final decision.
